Lyle Jordan, 85, of Bloomington, formerly of Peoria, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at 4:28 p.m. at the McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.

Lyle was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Peoria, Ill., a son of Eugene Jordan and Anna Caroline (Houston) Jordan. He grew up in Peoria and when he was 15 years old, started working at Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria.

On Nov. 20, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a truck driver. After the war ended, Lyle returned to Caterpillar and continued working until he retired after 40 years of service there.

He was a longtime Bloomington resident and had been a charter member of the Napoleon Calimese Elks Lodge No. 1635 and the Godfrey L. Miller Elks Lodge No. 1776.

He married Gloria Katherine Johnson in 1964; she passed in February of 1985.

Lyle is survived by three children, Lyle Dexter Jordan of Milwaukee, Wis., Lylah Rose Jordan and Lyle Eugene Jordan Jr., both of Bloomington, Ill.; a sister, Edna Jones of Peoria, Ill.; a grandson, Bilal Jordan-Walls; three granddaughters, Miata Jordan, Delancia Jordan-Walls and Jasmyn Jordan; and a great-grandson, Bilal A. Jordan-Walls Jr. Lyle is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; former spouses, Orabelle and Gloria Jordan; five brothers; and three sisters.

Lyle was a fun-loving man who loved his children, and his grandchildren even more.
