Wayne F. McPherson (89) passed away peacefully on May 24, 2022, in his home surrounded by family.
One of four children, Wayne was born to Kenneth C. and Lucy Kate Manry on March 2nd in Culbert, GA. His family later relocated to Macon, GA where he attended Lanier High School for Boys and excelled in ROTC. Upon high school graduation, Wayne participated in the co-op program at Warner Robins Air Force Base while attending Auburn University where he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean War. Once he completed his tour of duty, Wayne finished his studies at Auburn with a degree in Industrial Engineering to start his career.
Over the course of his lifetime, Wayne enjoyed history, debating politics, chess, golf, tennis, kayaking, painting, pickleball and all things Auburn - especially football. He was fun-loving, an amazing role model and his family's biggest fan. He made sure to instill his values on his children and grandchildren as well as the importance of education.
Wayne was preceded in death by Kenneth and Kate (parents), Kenneth Jr (brother), Charles (brother) and Travis (son).
Wayne leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Virginia and his daughter Phoebe (Anthony) Hobbs, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Please join us in celebrating his life on the afternoon of June 1, 2022. Receiving will begin at 3:30 with the service to follow at 5:30 at Christ United Methodist Church, 8645 E Brainerd Rd., Chattanooga, TN. A private family burial will be held later in June at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Association TN Chapter, P.O. Box 40244, Nashville, TN 37204.
