Bennie proudly served his country in the Air Force and worked for Hoover NSK Bearing, and he loved his job as a computer operator.
In August of 1967, he married Jewel Harris and together they raised two children, Bennie Leonard II of Washington Twp, Serita (Greta) Denise Ibarra-Leonard of Inkster. Bennie had six grandchildren, James D. (Valencia) Young, Alysse Leonard, Mosiah Phillips, Noah Smith, Faith Smith, and Louis Febus. Bennie also had many great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Bennie was a long-time member at Our Lady of Victory Church before it closed. He was an avid sports lover. Both as a player and a fan. He loved hanging out with his buddies and was a mentor to many. He was broadly known for his great personality and many that knew him called him by his nickname "Preacher".
Bennie's family would like to thank the sumpter seniors where he was very active. All of you were an important part of his life in his later years.
Visitation for Bennie will take place at the David C. Brown Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 24, from 3-7 PM with a Funeral Service at 7 PM with Fr. John Kiselica officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place on Wednesday, May 25, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Michigan.
