Theodore "Ted" Allen Tennant, age 83, of Richey Montana, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Glendive Medical Center in Glendive, Montana. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Rite of Committal with military honors will be in the Wibaux Cemetery in Wibaux, Montana. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Ted was born on to Grace (Rogers) and Howard Tennant in Wibaux, Montana on November 8, 1938. He was born on the Beaver Creek and this is where he got his nickname Little Beaver.
His passion for boxing started at a young age in Wibaux and continued on in Glendive. He was a Golden Glove boxer.
He attended elementary school in Glendive and Billings and graduated from Dawson County High School in 1957. During this time, he enjoyed playing sports and was known for being a tough football player. He continued this by coaching football and wrestling and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He was their #1 fan and followed wrestling for many years as a father, grandfather and an active AAU president.
Ted enlisted in the United States Army in 1957. He went to boot camp at Fort Ord in California and served 18 months in Germany as a clerk in the 7th Army at Mannheim.
When he returned from Germany, he met and married Virginia Bauer. They were married on June 3, 1961 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive, Montana. From this union seven children were born, Pat, Tarena, Mike, Shawn, Nadean, Jennifer, Clay. They built their home 6 miles east of Glendive. Not only was their place full of children but a magnitude of different farm animals.
At an early age, Ted went to work for the railroad. He started with the Great Northern Railroad as a brakeman and retired with Burlington Northern as a conductor after 42 years. During his many years he developed many close friendships and was a mentor to many young hires.
After retirement he moved to Richey. Ted continued his passion with rocks and rock masonry. He loved to share his skills and work by doing projects at the Richey Community Park and the Stockman Bar.
Ted loved hunting, fishing, and livestock. In fact, in his retirement one of his highlights of life was spending time calving cows at his nephew Roger Anderson's ranch at Hodges.
