DOWAGIAC - Lester J. True, 80, of Dowagiac, began life on October 22, 1927, in Pokagon, the son of Edmond and Florence (Lievy) True. He served his country in the United States Army 9th Infantry during World War II.

On November 1, 1947, he was united in marriage to Edna Neal. Lester was the owner of True's Standard Oil in the 1950s and the owner of True's Towing and Recovery, both in Dowagiac. Lester was always an active voice in Dowagiac and was proud of his community and for what he had accomplished. His greatest joy was his family which includes his children, Ed (Connie) True of Dowagiac, Toy (Harry) Little of Sister Lakes and Tanya (Wesley) Lillie of Dowagiac; five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Guy "Stub" True of Pokagon; and several nieces and nephews. Lester passed away in his home on Monday, January 14, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Elwin "Slim" and Eldon "Shorty" True.

His family will receive friends on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home where his funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., led by Reverend Mark Thompson of Silver Creek United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest at Sumnerville Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
