Youngest child and last survivor of Edward Phelps Allis and Margaret Marie Watson Allis.

He was married on 20 July 1901 at Neenah, Wisconsin to Jessica Stevens Alward, daughter of John Stevens and Mary Ann Oborn. She was the widow of Herbert Alward. This marriage ended in divorce after two months.

In London in May 1909, he secretly married Amber Lawlord, who died in Milwaukee on 4 March 1941. Gilbert and Amber were the parents of 2nd Lt. Gilbert Allis, Jr., who was killed in the D-Day Invasion on 6 June 1944.

According to his obituary, he is buried (with other family members) at Forest Home Cemetery.
