Services for Leatha Mae Young, 78, will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with pastor Tim Cooke officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Grandfield Cemetery, Grandfield.

Born Aug. 16, 1921, at Branford, Kan., to Edward Rezion and Grace McConnell Day, she passed away June 22, 2000, at her residence. She married Harold Andrew Young Sr. May 22, 1942, at Wichita, Kan. He preceded her in death Dec. 24, 1982. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Cecil Day.

She was the youngest of five children. She was reared in the Grandfield community and moved to Ardmore her senior year of high school. She graduated from Ardmore High School in 1939. She received her nurse's training at Lubbock, Texas. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years, serving the Ardmore community. She loved her nursing and her patients.

She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church until it closed and then joined First Presbyterian Church. She served for many years as a Sunday school teacher, singing in the choir, president of the Church Women's United, a deacon and an elder and on numerous other committees. She loved her church and had great faith in God.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, sports of all kinds, auctions, music, poetry, cooking and gardening. Her homemade breads, custards, banana puddings and legendary popcorn balls were a special treat. Leatha was dearly loved by her patients, family and friends. She always found good in everyone and everything. Her kindness and sincere caring will be missed.

Leatha leaves to mourn her passing one son, Harold Andrew "Drew" Young Jr. and his wife, Sherry, Sherman, Texas; three daughters, Joyce Briggs, Lee's Summit, Mo., Janice Rogers and her husband, Andrew, Wimberley, Texas, and Martha Green and her husband, Joe, Ardmore; one sister, Faye Washburn, Heber Springs, Ark.; one brother, Clair Day, Grandfield; five grandchildren, Traye Andrew and Jana LeeAnn Green; Jason, Russ and Cody Allen; and two great-grandchildren, Addison Glori and Anderson Drew Allen; and several nieces and nephews.

Bearers are Tom Coble, James Rogers, Mike Harvey, David Rasmuson, Tim Hill, Cody Allen and Traye green.
