Alvis Ray Bird, 85, of Haskell died Thursday, December 22, at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Services were at 10:00 AM, Satuday December 24, at Holden -McCaulley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial was in Willow Cemetery in Haskell.
He was born August 20, 1909 in Haskell Co. where he was a lifelong resident. He was retired from the Texas Highway Department. He married Francis Chapman Bird on October 12, 1928 in Breckenridge. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a Volunteer Fireman for 37 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Frances Bird; 2 sons, Gerald Bird of El Paso, and Robert Bird Sr., of Stamford; 4 grandchilren, Ricky Don Faust of Waco, Vicky Ann Bird Moreno of Stamford, Marvin Haile of Abilene, and Robert Bird Jr. of Stanton, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur (Peeley) Bird and Ethel Bland Bird; 2 daughters, Ernestine Bird Perry and Flova Jean Bird Faust/Haile; and 1 grandson, Robert Carlton Bird.
Pallbearers were Wayland Shurley, Larry Moreno Jr., Buddy Oliver, Kenneth Campbell, Robert Starr, and Ed Walling.
