Daughter of William Sherlock, D.D., and Elizabeth (Gardner) Sherlock. Her father was Dean of Saint Paul's Cathedral in London. She married Sir Thomas Gooch, 2nd Gooch Baronet of Benacre Hall, on November 12, 1717. Her father left a substantial amount of money to her upon his death. Since than most succeeding generations have used the name Sherlock as a middle name. Their son, Thomas, became the 3rd Baronet.
