The Rev. John Cosgrove ~ Mass for the Rev. John Cosgrove, 75, a Jesuit missionary in India for 45 years will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the domestic chapel of the faculty residence at Loyola University, 6525 N. Sheridan Rd. Father Cosgrove died Sunday in the Loyola faculty quarters, where he had been living since February, when he returned to the United States for medical treatment after suffering a stroke. Father Cosgrove went to India in 1935 and studied theology at St Mary's College in Kurseong, in the Himalayan foothills north of Calcutta, where he was ordained a priest in 1940. During World War II he was a chaplain to 3,000 American and British troops stationed near Gaya, India. After the war he joined the faculty at St. Xavier High School in Jaipur, India, where he taught crafts. He is survived by a brother and three sisters.
