PHELPS, Reuben G., of Burton Twp. Will dated 29 March 1879. He was dead by 25 July 1879. The final recording was 13 Sept. 1879. Executor was William W. Merrill. Witnesses: Joel Graves, William W. Merrill & George R. Howe, all from Burton. Reuben made his mark. His daughters: Henryette Irish, Delia Cole, Adeline Thompson, Lucieba Auton & Alice; sons: Leander, Eugene, Jerome & Freeland. (Liber 100, p. 66.)
(Ed note: No TSa have been seen for Reuben and wife Mary, but very likely they are buried at Pine Grove Cemetery., Davison Twp., where son "Freeland" 1849-1884 and daughter of R. G. & M Phelps, probably Lovona, d. 13 Feb. 1864, 5 y 7 m 14 d, are buried on separate lots.
The 1860 Davison Twp. census found "Rubin" & Mary Phelps farmers with large family of children, including Jerome aged 14. He became father of Maude Lottie Phelps, 1886-1960, who married in 1910 as first wife of John L. Riegle, Sr. the latter still lives in Flint, grandfather of Senator Don W. Riegle, Jr.)
