In 1856, the family moved to Sangamon county, Illinois; removing from there to Boone county, 1864. ...Township, on the farm now owned by Jacob Stevens. While on the farm her husband died, and in the year 1868, she left the farm and came to Boonsboro. She has resided here continuously ever since. For the past 30 years she has had poor health, and for several years been confined to the house much of the time, a great sufferer, but always patient and resigned to every fate. Her whole life has been devoted to the welfare of her family and children. She was a model woman and a devoted mother. In early life she was acquainted with Samuel J. Tilden, Adoniram Judson and his noble wife; also members of the noted Webster Family. During the heated political discussion, just before the war, she heard Lincoln and Douglas in their noted controversy. She was noted always for her sympathy with trouble and misfortune and when death came, passed away quietly and resigned, peacefully as if in sleep. All her children now living, except two, were present at her bedside when she died. She finally succumbed to an ailment of the stomach that had troubled her for many years.
Her children are now widely scattered—Mrs. Ballinger, the wife of R.H. Ballinger who was a lawyer at an early day in Boonsboro, now lives in Decatur, Alabama; C.J. Norton lives at Larned, Kansas; J.D. Norton at Princeton, the same state. The others live in Iowa. C.F. at Lohrville; Benj. F. at Ida Grove; S.A. Norton, Mrs. C.A. Tucker, Mrs. F.P. Wylie and Ida A. Norton, in this county.
Funeral from the residence Friday at 2 p.m. Her remains now rest in Linwood Cemetery. Her sons and daughters receive the sympathy of the entire community, but in their bereavement they are consoled...
