He was born October 16, 1948 in Mulberry to the late Gerald and Earlene (Hinton) Fisher.
He was a 1966 graduate of Pleasant View High School, and attended the School of the Ozarks in Hollister, Mo. until being drafted into the U. S. Army in July of 1969. He served one tour in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division, 1st Platoon Company C 3rd of the 506th Infantry where he was awarded the Air Medal, CIB, Silver Star among several others. Following his tour in Vietnam, he returned to the School of the Ozarks and received his BS Degree in 1973 in the field of Education. He received his MSE from the University of Central Arkansas in 1978 in the field of Physical Education. He taught in the State of Arkansas for 33 years, and in 2016, Staff Sgt. Waldo Fisher was inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame. He was a beloved and faithful member of Mount Zion Regular Baptist Church in Mulberry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dustin Cole Fisher.
He is survived by a daughter, April Coats and husband Adam of Barling; a son, Shane Fisher and wife Suzanne of Alma; two sisters, Claudine Shankle and husband Dub of Mulberry, and Dellana Summerhill and husband Paul of Alma; three grandsons, Brandon, Christopher, and Cole; a great-grandson, Dmitiri; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2022 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Richard Meers, Joe Gibbs, Doug McKinney, Christopher Fisher, Brandon Fisher and Adam Coats. Honorary pallbearers will be Dub Shankle and Paul Summerhill.
