Totty was born on May 13, 1934, in Greenwood to the late Mary Louise Sheperd and Champ Taylor Terney, Sr. She moved to Greenville at the age of twelve and graduated from Greenviile High School, having been chosen Miss GHS during her senior year. She received a Masters Degree in History from Delta State University.
During her years in Greenville, she was a member of the Junior Auxiliary, the Executive Director of the United Way, and served on the Vestry and as a Licensed Lay Reader at St. James' Episcopal Church.
She has been a communicant of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Greenwood since 1988. serving as a Licensed Lay Reader and participating in ail areas of church life She made several mission trips to the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina to serve at Camp Coast Care.
Totty was a member of the DAR, the Hugenot Society, Early Settlers, and the Greenwood Garden Club.
Totty's many interests include travel, Japanese Culture, genealogy, and entertaining in her home. She was a loyal friend to many and her Spiritual presence among friends and family will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Champ Taylor Terney, Jr.; a niece, Taylor Powers Terney; and her beloved aunt, Ethel Elizabeth Terney.
She is also survived by two sons, Dr. David L. Merideth of Ridgeland and Dr. Philip Taylor Merideth of Jackson, his wife, Courtney and their sons, Carter, Reeves, and Judson; a brother, Philip Baird Terney, Greenville, and his wife, Linda; nieces, Mary Elizabeth Terney Jackson of Jackson; Melinda Terney Parker of Helena, Alabama; and Merideth Terney Nerren of Hernando; Deborah E. Reid, step-daughter, and her husband, James of Goose Creek, South Carolina; their daughter, Casey Stradcutter, her husband, Jacob and their son, Landon of North Charleston, South Carolina; and cherished friend, Catherine Ivey of Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Mike Boler; Crosby Taylor; Earnest Jackson; Taylor Vickery; Dr. Todd Fincher; Jody Muirhead; The Rev. Charlie Deaton, Jr.; Dr. Aubrey Lucas; and Tait Selden.
