Dover, NH – Betty Jane Casey, 76 died peacefully Sunday February 1, 2009 at the Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born March 8, 1932 in Dover the daughter of Edgar and Catherine (Scruton) Casey, graduated from St. Mary Academy in 1950 and went on to graduate from St. Mary College in 1954 with a BA in English. Later she went on to receive her Master of Education from the University of New Hampshire.

Following her graduation form Mt. St. Mary's, she taught at St. Mary Academy in Dover for 5 years and then taught at the Rollinsford School for more than 20 years. While teaching for Rollinsford, she worked at the Ogunquit Playhouse as summer employment for 10 years.

She was the Dover Chairman of the March of Dimes for many years.

She became the circulation manager at the Portsmouth Herald.

From 2001-2008, she was in the foster grandparent program at Maplewood School in Somersworth.

She was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary Church.

Betty loved the arts, history, classical music and architecture. She was involved with the Democratic Party. She enjoyed animals and football.

Survivors include her uncle, Ralph Casey of Dover; several cousins and several close friends.

Thank you to Dr. Dicks and the nursing staff of Dover Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care given to Betty.

There are no visiting hours. A Mass will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church (corner of Chestnut and Third Sts.). Relatives and friends are invited.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary Church, 25 Third St., Dover, NH 03820 or to Cocheco Valley Humane Society 262 County Farm Rd., Dover, NH 03820
