1935-2022 Marlene Benzschawel, 86 years old, formerly of Appleton and Manitowoc, WI passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Hospice Alliance Hospice House, Pleasant Prairie, WI. She was born in Manitowoc, WI on September 18, 1935, the daughter of the late Eugene and Clara (Tisler) Klann. Marlene graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, WI in 1953. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at UW- Oshkosh and then received her master's degree in Education Administration from UW- Madison. Marlene married Gerald R. Benzschawel on August 29, 1959, at Holy Innocents Church in Manitowoc, WI and he preceded her in death on June 20, 2007. She began her teaching career in Dousman, WI in 1955, and taught and served as an elementary administrator in various schools in Wisconsin. Survivors include her children, Pam Berry of Appleton, WI and Todd (Carla) Benzschawel of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Eric (Carmen Castaños) Benzschawel of Milwaukee, WI and Andrea (Jérémy Dyck) Benzschawel of Montreal, Canada; siblings, Robert (Margaret) Klann of Beloit, WI, Jerome (Susan) Klann of Salem, WI; sister-in-law, Ruth Klann of Stewartville, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with her parents and husband, Marlene was preceded in death by her brother Eugene Klann Jr. and son-in-law Derek Berry. Visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Proko Funeral Home with a prayer service and Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Prayers will be said at Proko Funeral Home on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 9091 Prairie Ridge Blvd., Pleasant Prairie, WI. Interment will be private in Calvary Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc, WI. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Hospice Alliance, in her memory.
