Born January 16, 1912, in Leesville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Andrew Lawrence and Hassie Drafts Addy.
A veteran of WWII, he retired from the United States Army in 1953. Following his retirement, he worked in communications at Fort Jackson. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Gilbert, Masonic Lodge #384, Cayce, and received the 50-year certificate of membership in 1999.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Sudie Kersey Addy, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Sam Gorham of Hickory, North Carolina; two grandsons, Sam (Christine) Gorham, IV of Norcross, Georgia, and Greg Gorham of Hickory, North Carolina; great-grandson, Peyton Gorham of Norcross, Georgia; brother, Leon (Elizabeth) Addy of Columbia.
Funeral services will be held 2 p. m. Saturday at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, with the Rev. Todd Kornahrens officiating. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens, West Columbia.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
