Daniel Elmer Waite was born Feb. 22, 1849 (don't know why the headstone says 1850) in Lasselville, Oppenheim county, New York. Died April 22, 1935 in Fork Twp., Mecosta county, Michigan. Daniel's parents were Calvin and Mary Waite. Maried April 26, 1877 in Fork Twp., to Emma Fayvilla (Lee) Waite. She was born Nov. 27, 1862 in Trumbell county, Ohio and died Mar. 3, 1931 in Fork Twp., Mecosta county, Michigan. Her parents were Russell and Charlotte Lee.

MEMORIES--Families of Barryton Community
Daniel Elmer Waite came from New York state in 1869 to live and work in the lumbering camps of Fork Twp., Mecosta Co., Michigan. Daniel had worked all over New York, helping to build the Erie Canal. His sister Louisa, then Mrs. Peter Nellis, already resided in Fork Twp.
Daniel purchased the land April 15, 1882, the N 1/2 NE 1/4 section 13 T 16 N. R. 7 W, where their beautiful stone home stands.
Daniel was very involved in Barryton and was one of the most substantial and popular farmers in the area. His son Eldon (Alice) live on the family farm in 1997.

Surprise on Daniel Waite, occasion being his 67th. birthday anniversary. 50 years ago Daniel Waite, a sturdy lad of 17 was driving mule teams on the Welland Canal near Niagara Falls, Welland Co., Ontario, Canada. Today he is one of the most substantial and popular farmers of this region. He's the owner of 240 acres of fertile, well-improved land, his fine buildings including one of the largest basement barns here bouts and a roomy and attractive new farm residence.
Mr. Waite was 67 years old last Thursday and that event would be properly celebrated, his friends planned and helped carry out a happy surprise. Upwards of 100 persons being present including three big sleigh loads from Barryton who took along and presented Mr. Waite with a handsome upholstered chair. The evening was happily spent in visiting, telling experiences of pioneer days, singing music and partaking of an abundance of good things, Mrs. Waite had provided unbeknown to Dan, for the occasion. Before departing at an early hour Friday morning, all united in wishing Mr. Wait many happy returns of the day.
