Ellena M. Ladd, daughter of Ole E. and Cecelia Ladd, was born November 3, 1863, on the Ladd homestead northwest of Eureka, and grew to womanhood in Greenwood county. She passed away February 25, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, after a lingering illness.

She was baptized in infancy and confirmed when young and joined the Fall River Lutheran Church.

On May 12, 1889 in Greenwood county, she was united in marriage to Sherman B. Dray of Browning, Illinois, at a place where they resided for some years. Mr. Dray being a merchant there. Later they moved to Peoria, Illinois, where Mr. Dray died some years ago. She and her son made their home in Peoria for some time, later moving to Chicago, where they resided at the time of her death.

She leaves to mourn her passing, one son, Ladd Dray, of Chicago, Ill., and one daughter, Mayde Jurgens of Duluth, Minn., also one grandson, Sonny Jurgens of Duluth; two sisters, Sadie Culver of Pomona, California, and Maldee Breneman of Eureka, and two brothers, Ed and Bert Ladd, both of Eureka.

She was a kind, loving, and patient wife, mother and sister, and will be mourned most by those who knew her best.

Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Frisbie L. Young, was held from the Baird Funeral Home Saturday, February 28. Entombment was in Mausoleum in the Ladd Cemetery.
