John J. Applegate, Sr., of Philadelphia, passed away on Friday evening, June 17, 2022 at his residence. He was 71 years old. John was born on April 19, 1951 to the late Alfred and Clementine (née Stevenson) Applegate. He was the husband to René D. (née Clement) Applegate with whom he is survived by. John was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He worked as an electrical construction inspector for the city of Philadelphia water department. In his free time, John enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, boating, and was an all around handyman.
Along with his wife René, John is survived by his children: Gwen Rotella (Mikos), Michael Applegate, Crystal Applegate, Melissa Irvin, John J. Applegate, Jr. (Samantha), and his grandchildren: Nicholas, Brionna, Justin, Alex, Billy, J.J. III, Alura, Addison, Christopher, Vivian. He is survived also by siblings: Susan Palumbo, Joseph Applegate, and Gerard Applegate.
Relatives and friends are invited to John's Life Celebration on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Geitner-Givnish Life Celebration Home, 6230 N. 5th St. Philadelphia, PA 19120.
