Palm Desert - Richard Dean Robbins was born to Charles Franklin Robbins and Florence Mae Greenlee on July 29, 1936, in Logansport, Indiana. Dick and his big brother, Charles, enjoyed a close relationship. His grandfather, whom he loved dearly, owned a bakery where Dick worked as a boy, first washing pots and pans but eventually becoming a baker in his own right. He attended Monticello High School, excelled academically, played clarinet in the band, and added his beautiful tenor voice to the choir. He graduated in 1954 and earned a degree in Accounting from International Business College in Fort Wayne. Shortly thereafter, Dick moved to California and spent most of his career working for ITT Gilfillan in Van Nuys. It was there that he met the love of his life, Darlene. When they married in 1972, he inherited an instant family of five children. Through them, Dick became a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. He was admired and respected by all who knew him for his kindness, integrity, and intelligence.
A long-time resident of Palm Desert, Dick passed away on December 4, 2018, at the age of 82, one month after losing his beloved wife, Grace Darlene Robbins. He is survived by his stepchildren, Nancy Cathey (Charles), Susan Anderson (David), Nikki Blake (Perry), Jayne Hofhine (Mike), and Richard Noyes Jr. (Stacy). He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His family loved him dearly and will miss him every day. The viewing will be held at 11:00 AM and the funeral services at 12:00 PM on Monday, December 10th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 40840 Washington Street, Bermuda Dunes, California. He will be interred privately at Coachella Valley Cemetery on Tuesday, December 11th.
