[Thomas Dutton was born on January 31, 1735. He removed to that part of Waterbury, New Haven County, which is now Watertown, Litchfield County, Connecticut, and settled upon a farm of two hundred acres, which at the time was bounded on all sides by "the King's land." Besides his farm he carried on the business of house joiner, and nearly all the churches and meeting houses standing in that part of the country as late as 1830 were built by him, and nearly all the joiners of middle age, or older, had learned the trade of him. He was captain of a company of militia in service at the defence of New York, in 1776, but the title which he most affected, and by which he was generally known among his neighbors, was that of Deacon Thomas Dutton. He died January 29, 1806. He married, March, 1756, Anna Rice (Roys in the old records), of Wallingoford."
