Daughter of:
Edgar Dow and Jennie Woolhouse

Wife of:
Paul James Borowicz, married August 2, 1950 in Cheboygan, Cheboygan County, Michigan. Son of Louis Borowicz and Cecilia Brovage.

Lorena Mae Borowicz (Dow), age 92, passed from this life on June 24, 2022 at Medilodge in Cheboygan. She was born to Edgar and Jennie (Woolhouse) Dow on May 27, 1930, the 10th of 15 children. On August 2nd, 1950 at Sacred Heart Church in Riggsville, she married Paul Borowicz who preceded her in death in 2007.

She is survived by her five children, Harold (Sandy) of Cheboygan, Barbara Martens of South Carolina, Ernest (Celia "Sally") of Indiana, James of Cheboygan, and Marilyn (Jim) Staffan of Ohio. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, an ever-increasing number of great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.

Her working career began as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell in their Cheboygan office. When automation forced the closure of that facility, she went to work at Fox Valley Instruments until she chose to retire. Most of her life she was a gardener, canning, freezing and preserving what she grew and/or picked from the wild, but her real love was baking. In her lifetime she quite literally produced tons of cookies, thousands of loaves of bread and many wedding cakes. Her specialties included pumpkin rolls, donated annually to benefit her church, fruitcake, treasured by everyone she chose to present it to, and date-filled cookies produced for family every year during the holidays. She was an avid reader in her spare time, spending many hours with her novels and also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. There are many reasons her children will cherish her memory. We will remember her for the love she shared with each of us and lavished generously on those around her. We believe that she would best like to be remembered in happier times, in her kitchen, surrounded by grandchildren, and wearing an apron and a smear of flour on one cheek.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of the Brook of Cheboygan for making her last 4 years so comfortable. Thanks also to the staff at Cheboygan Medilodge for assisting her in these last few weeks.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will take place at St. Mary's in Cheboygan on June 29 beginning at 11:00 am with family greeting friends an hour before. Father Duane Wachowiak will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Bishop Baraga Catholic School or the St. Thomas Food Pantry. Courtesy of Stone Funeral Home, Inc.
