As the paternal grandmother of novelist George Sand, she was in charge of Sand's education after her son's death from a riding accident. She had a grandson, August, who was born blind and died age 2 months. She was the natural daughter of the Marshal of Saxe, who was buried in Strasbourg, in the Saint Thomas Church, under an extraordinary monument signed Pigalle. The Marshal de Saxe showed little interest in the fate of his illegitimate daughter and bequeathed her nothing. Her birth record list a non-existent person as her father until May 15, 1766 when the courts changed the document showing her natural father's name. The nephew of her father provide support until she was age six and at that point, she was placed in a convent. Her mother was Marie-Geneviève Rinteau, an actress. She bought the estate of Nohant which she bequeathed to her granddaughter. Known after her first marriage as Countess of Horn, she became a widow within eight months after her husband was killed in a duel. After her second marriage to an elderly man, she was known as Madame Dupin de Francueil.
