He attended South Charleston High school Class of 1955 and Morris Harvey College.
His first job was playing Santa at age 14 and continued to brighten children's lives for 61 years. John also worked 10 years at Union Carbide in West Virginia before becoming a City of Cocoa firefighter, where he served the community for 25 years until he retired in 1990. John also played college football, played semiprofessional football for West Virginia, was a professional wrestler, and played Smoky the Bear for fire prevention events. In addition, he was a member of the
Fraternal Order of Eagles,
Loyal Order of Moose,
and the
Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Also a member of the Space Coast Street Rod Club.
John was a devoted husband and daddy. He enjoyed making people laugh and smile.
John and his wife enjoyed life to the fullest, with an extraordinary social life. They had many adventures and never met a stranger. Their love for each other and life was always on display.
He was avid street rod car lover and enjoyed restoring many makes and models. Including a 1947 Mack fire truck. He enjoyed going to the flea market and yard sales with his daughter every weekend.
He will be deeply missed by his many many friends and his family.
