Tom Buckley died Monday Jan. 14, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars at the age of 87.

Tom was born April 16, 1920, on a farm near Wakonda, S.D., the son of James A. and Jauletta (Krueger) Buckley. He attended Ireland rural school near Wakonda for a few years. He moved to Plymouth County, Iowa in 1930 with his family and attended rural schools in and around Struble through the 8th grade. Tom always worked on the farm with his father, using horses to plow, plant, cultivate and harvest the crops.

When tractors became popular prior to World War II, Tom convinced his dad to buy one and he operated it. After his father's death in 1952, Tom took care of his mother. Tom fed cattle, built a dairy herd and built a new house for his mother. He turned the dairy herd over to his sister and brother-in-law and became involved in several business operations. He lived on an acreage northeast of Le Mars. In 1991 Tom moved to Floyd Valley Apartments in Le Mars. On Jan. 9 of this year he moved to Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars (Brentwood).

Tom was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. He enjoyed playing cards. Tom especially enjoyed all of his nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by two brothers, Bill Buckley of Sioux City and Don Buckley and his wife Marianne of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Annetta Bjorholm of Danbury, Noema Prieksat of Le Mars and Rita Minten of Alton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; a brother Tim and his wife Lucy; youngest brother Leo in 1949; sister-in-law Marie Buckley; and three brothers-in-law, Harry Bjorholm, Harvey Prieksat and Paul Minten.
