Funeral services for Benjamin H. "Bucky" Bass, Jr. were held Monday, July 27 at Lakeside, Arizona. Mr. Bass died from cancer on Friday, July 24 at his home in Show Low, Ariz.

Benjamin "Bucky" Bass was born May 12, 1948 in Alturas, Calif. as one of seven children born to Ben "Peck" and Madeline Bass. He grew up in Canby, attending Arlington Elementary and graduated from Modoc High School, Alturas. During those years he was active in Little League and basketball.

During the Vietnam era he served with the U.S. Army's 9th Infantry, stationed in Vietnam. When discharged in 1971, he left for Arizona where his parents were then living. In 1990, Mr. Bass, his wife Josie, step-daughter Traci and son David returned to Canby where he was employed as a log truck driver and worked for Loveness Logging. He followed logging to Pinetop, Ariz. in late 1996, when the family returned to Arizona.

Mr. Bass loved to play pinochle, and was a regular at the Canby Hotel pinochle club during the winter months. He and his wife also helped with many community projects.

He is survived by his wife, Josie Bass of Show Low, Ariz.; daughter Traci and her husband, Scott Fairchild of Showlow; son David Bass of Redding; stepchildren Joe and Troy , Debbie and Tina; brothers Dean, Larry, Willard and Donald Bass; sisters, Sandra and Joyce; three grandchildren Megan, Rusty and Benji; 17 step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends who will also miss him.
