Funeral services for E.R. 'Gene' Ray of Cordele will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service with interment to follow at Tremont Cemetery in Crisp County. Mr. Ray, 90, died at Crisp Regional Hospital Thursday, January 3, 2008. Born in Crisp County, he was the son of the late Paul Oscar and Nora Stephens Ray. Mr. Ray was a farmer and a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Carolyn and Grady Hauesler, Paula Faye and Wilbur Lowery , Margaret and Butch Holt, and Richard and Catherine Ray, son-in-law Larry Young all of Cordele; sisters Martha L. Wade of Cordele and Pauline Dowdy of Lake Park; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes Coleman Ray a daughter Betty Jean Young, a grandson Benjamin Ray brothers Glenn Ray, Willie Lee Ray, Albert Ray, Oscar Ray and Jim Ray, and sisters Catherine Lindsey, Kate DePerio and Clara Anderson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, January 4, 2008, from 6 til 8 P.M. Flowers accepted or contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church 598 N.
