She was the daughter of Jack Penny and Mattie Long Penny, and was the widow of Elbert Clinton Abernethy.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Herndon.

Annie was survived by a son, three daughters, nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 21 great great grandchildren.
