Albert Wayne Clark was born in Pageton, West Virginia on March 15, 1941, and departed this life peacefully on June 20, 2022.
After high school he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, and then attended Bluefield State College where he received his bachelor's degree. He later received a master's degree in Education.
He was a devoted educator for many years and retired from Mercer County Public Schools after serving as Principal of Bluefield Middle School. He spent most of his career at Matoaka High School where he rose from being a teacher to becoming the first African-American principal. He was well respected and beloved, and always spoke fondly of his time there.
He was a dedicated and loyal member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for more than twenty years where he served as Treasurer and a deacon. He sang in the choir and attended Sunday School and Bible Study faithfully. Albert was an active member of his community with membership in organizations such as the Kiwanis Club and The American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his father John Cutler Clark, his mother Alice Dandridge Clark, his sister Nancy Clark Howell, his brother John Burl Clark and his sister Marion Clark Cross. He leaves to cherish his memory his twin sister Alberta Clark Monroe of Milford, PA, a close cousin William Hewitt Mauldin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Albert was an easy-going, kind, generous spirit who loved sports and music. He served his family, church, nation, and community faithfully. He will be missed by many.
In honoring Albert's wishes, he has been cremated and will be interred at Restlawn Memorial Park in Bluefield, WV.
