Verner, a doctor, settled in Orlando in 1907 and clerked for two years at the Abernathy Drug Compnay. He then served as its manager and bouht a half interest in it, owning it jointly with Mrs. V P Moody. In 1921 Verner and his brother, H O Estes, bought a chain of drug stores from the United Drug Company. Verner also served as Orlando's Mayor from 1935 to 1937. The 1927 Estes home still stands at 420 Cherokee Drive
