Bill spent the majority of his career working for the state of Virginia in various locations such as JMU and Virginia Tech. He retired from Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved playing golf whenever he was given the opportunity. One of his favorite passions included restoring antique cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis St. Clair and a brother, Terry Short.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Greta Short. He is also survived by daughter, Krista (Harvey) Morris, son, Richard (Candice) Short, and step-daughter Melissa (Ryan) McLamb. Bill's sister Barbara Hewitt of Waynesboro and brother Frank Short (Debbie) of Roanoke also survive him. Other surviving family members include seven grandchildren and numerous well-loved nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the viewing on Sunday, July 24 at McDow Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, July 25 at 1 p.m. at Fishersville Baptist Church with interment immediately following in Augusta Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations be made to Hospice of Shenandoah (111 N. Campus Road, Fishersville, VA 22939) or Fishersville Baptist Church (1518 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, VA 22939).
