Duane worked at Chrysler; later Duane and Shirley bought a farm in rural Monticello, just outside of Albany where they raised their children. They raised dairy cows, steers and farmed crops for 50 years. Duane loved his family, farming, fieldwork, dogs, and John Deere tractors. Duane will be remembered for his sense of humor as well as the pride he took in taking care of their family's farm.
Duane is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley; children, Stacy Gertsch of Albany, Wendy (Jamie) Mentz of Blanchardville, Johnny (Sherry) Gertsch of Albany, and Jamie (Lily) Gertsch of Albany; grandchildren, Tyler (Brandi), Arrissa, and Joseph Mentz, Andy and Laney Gertsch; great-grandchildren, Ava, Jaxson, Tanner, and Madison; sisters, Deanna (Rick) Gertsch-Pozorski, Dorothy (Dale Beske) Gertsch, Linda (Bill) Hutchinson, and Nancy (Bob) Cummings; mother-in-law, Lillian Kolb; sister-in-law, Judy Tway; and his dog, Sadie; along with many other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lisa Gertsch; brother, David Gertsch; infant sister, Lois Gertsch; father-in-law, John Kolb; and brother-in-law, Doug Tway.
The family would like to thank Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care of Duane.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.
