The death occurred at the Bush Nursing Hospital yesterday of Mr. Horace William Bell, an old and well-known resident of Euroa. Deceased, who was 77 years of age, became ill last week and was taken to the hospital, but did not respond to treatment. He was a son of the late Alfred Roacher Bell (who was the first schoolmaster in Euroa) and Euphemia Bell, and was a member of a family well-known for its athletic prowess in the earlier days. He was an ardent cricketer, and successful as a bowler with the old 'Wanderers' team. Deceased to Euroa with his parents as a boy, and except for a brief interval, had spent the remainder , of his life here. He was employed for many years by the late John Platt at his sawmills. Later he conducted a bakery business here. He was a leading member of the U.A.O.D., and held high office, and was keenly interested in all forms of sport. His wife predeceased him a few years ago, and he leaves a family of two sons —William and Bert-—and two daughters—Mildred and Eileen. One son, Arthur, was killed in action with the A.I.F. in the Great War. Deceased was held in very high esteem, particularly by the older generation, and his many friends regret his passing and sympathise with the family in its bereavement. The funeral will leave the Church of England at 2.30 this afternoon.
