Sallie Jane Hale, 90, of Chapmanville, was born August 9, 1915, at Manila,
a daughter of the late Van and Bertha Bell Hill. She departed this life Friday,
May 19, 2006, at her residence.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, R. Kermit "Red" Hale in 1979; one
daughter, Jeanette Hale Ellison; two sisters, Tressie Aleshire and Claudia Hill;
three brothers, Kyle, Hershel and Virgil Hill, and one son-in-law, Olaf Mason
Conley in 2005.
Mrs. Hale was a homemaker, a 1933 graduate of Chapmanville High School, a former substitute teacher, for many years the area chairperson for the American Red
Cross Blood Drive, and a member of the Manila Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Hale Conley of Chapmanville; one son, H.
David (Brenda) Hale of Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Mildred (Paris) Stephens of
Poca, and two grandchildren, David Jason (Ann) Hale and Sarah Elizabeth (David)
Rueff, and four great-grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Hale, John David Hale,
Hannah Elizabeth Rueff and Jackson David Rueff, all of Louisville.
Services wil be conducted at 2 p.m. today, May 21, at the Evans Funeral Home in
Chapmanville with Mr. Jim Owston, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in
Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Pallbearers will be David Jason Hale, David Rueff, Tilden Bell, Gary Bell, Mike
Tiller, Charles Aleshire, Larry Myers and Charles Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Spencer, Ken Adkins, Doug Jeffery, Harold Hill,
Rodger Hager, Mike Hill, Lowell Hager, Bob Bell, Jimmy Aleshire, Danny Stollings,
Paris Stephens, Ronnie Hainor, Mark Mays, Sherman Crum, Bryan Mahaffey, Willard Adkins, Joe Fowler, Rick Burdette, Joe Ellison, Jerry Abbott, Ralph Perry and Olaf Conley Jr.
