Winfred Foster Banbury was born in Danville, Ohio and was raised on a farm south of Pratt, Kansas. He was an accomplished football player in his day and played for the Bethany College "Terrible Swedes". When their program was cancelled because of scheduling he transfered to Western Pennsylvania University (now known as Pittsburgh State) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his younger brother John Quincy Banbury. He played four years there and also participated in Track and Field. He obtained his dental degree from that university and practiced dentistry in his home town of Pratt, Kansas for over 50 years. Doc "Win" never had any offspring but did marry a lady that had children. He was a well respected member of the Pratt community.
