LEONARD H. CHILDRESS, 85, of Collierville, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 25, 2008. In 1964, Len retired as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy following a distinguished career in WWII and he was retired from the V.A. Hospital in Memphis, serving our nation for a total of 38 years. His memory is cherished by many including his loving wife, Beth Childress; a step-daughter, Jo Beth Rush (Fred) of Hot Springs, AR; a step-son, Bob Clark (Lourene) of Jackson, TN; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Subie Knight of Nashville, TN, and Josephine Rutherford (Carl) of Clinton, TN; abrother, Irby Childress of Sardis, MS; two nieces, Diane Apple of Hermitage, TN and Debbie Long (Steve) of Clinton, TN; three great-nieces and a great-nephew; a loving church family at Central Church and the Ambassador Sunday School Class. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31 at 11 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 1 p.m. He will be buried at 2 p.m. in West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
