BURNS, DOROTHY SMITH Dorothy Cornelia Smith, 77, born December 4, 1930 in Sebring, FL passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008.

Dorothy was the daughter of Agnes and Louis Smith of Groveland, FL. She was a member of the Groveland High School Class of 1948 and married Thomas Burns of Bay Lake in July of that year. Thomas passed away in 2006.

Dorothy was a longtime member of the Bay Lake Missionary Baptist Church. While raising five children, Dorothy received a B.A. in Education from Florida Technological University in 1971 and a Master in Arts in Teaching from Rollins College in 1976. Many children passed through Dorothy's school room door in the 23 yrs. she taught in Lake County Elementary Schools.

Dorothy was a loving mother to daughters, Anita (Arthur) Karst of Tampa, Connie (Brian) Phillips of Bay Lake, and Lori (Sean) Cunningham of Baton Rouge, LA, sons, Thomas Roy Burns of Bay Lake and Glenn (Colleen) Burns of Montverde. She is also survived by her brother Louis Smith of Newberry, FL and sister Linda Smith of Atlanta, GA, and ten grandchildren, John Speer, Amanda Karst, Kim Burns, Ryan, Justin, and Casey Phillips, Megan and Anna Burns, and Tess and Liam Cunningham, great-grandchildren Olivia and Anna Speer. Dorothy and Thomas loved visiting their grandchildren and traveling with family and friends.
