Son of William Pollard, Sr. and Ora Millett/Spaulding. His birth record from Winslow, Maine shows the date as 27 Aug 1837, although the grave marker gives a birth year of 1838.

He enlisted in May 1861 from Winslow, Maine for a 3 year term of military service during the Civil War. He was called 23, single, lumberman. He served as a Private in Co. G, 3rd Maine Infantry. In Jul 1862, he was wounded by a gunshot in the right leg, but continued to serve in the Invalid Corps until his discharge in Jun 1864. He received an invalid veteran's pension from Mar 1868.

He married 1) Katie Grant on 24 Nov 1864 in Vassalboro, Maine.

He married 2) Lorinda F. Odlin on 4 Jul 1876 in Waterville, Maine.

In 1880 he was a farmer in Mercer, Maine. In 1900 he was widowed and lived with his sister Susan Benson and her family in Oakland, Maine.

He died of apoplexy (a stroke) at the age of 66. His death record calls him a painter.
