Following funeral services at Easton, Norman Douglas Ballinger, 8-year-old victim of freak accident at Easton was buried at Fraternal Cemetery in Chelan last Thursday.

The child, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Ballinger of Easton, suffered a broken neck and died almost immediately when struck by a whipping tree limb while playing with two of his brothers.

Deputy Coroner Frank Talerico said Terry Ballinger, 10 and Larry Ballinger, 6, were swinging on the limb while Norman was standing on the edge of a shed roof and helping to rock the limb up and down. The limb broke suddenly, tumbling its riders to the ground.

A part of it flipped back and struck Norman, snapping his neck. He died while being rushed to a Cle Elum hospital by his mother.

The family moved to Easton six months ago. Besides his parents, he is survived by 11 brothers and sisters. Four brothers, Larry, Terry, Clifford and Cecil Jr., served as pallbearers at the funeral services. The family were former residents of Chelan.
