Born at Wethersfield, NY, son of William Henry and Lurana Witherell Charles, descended on both sides of the family from notable ancestors including soldiers of the Revolutionary War. Died after a prolong illness at his hime on West Buffalo St. His paternal grandfather, Timothy Charles, was the first of the family to settle in Wy. Co. whither he moved from Mass. and his maternal grandfather, David Witherell settled in Wy. Co. about the same time. Mr. Charles' great great grandfather was president of Harvard College from 1774 to 1780 and delivered a prayer to the soldiers on the Boston Common prior to the seige of Bunker Hill. Paul Langdon, son of Samuel Langdon, was a captain in the Revolutionary War and his grave is at Wethersfield Springs cemetery. He attended country schools & Warsaw High school and after studying law was admitted to the bar in the Spring of 1884. After a years practice in Arcade, NY in partnership with the late Archibald C. McCall of Buffalo, NY, he moved to Warsaw & formed a partnership with the late I. Samuel Johnson from 1886 - 1906. He practiced alone until 1/1/1924 when he formed a partnership with his son, Glenn E. Charles till his death. He was District Attorney of Wy. Co. 1895-1904, member of Assemby 1904-1906, member of American Bar Assn.; NY State Bar Assn.; Wy. Co. Bar Assn; & Masonic Fraternity. United in 1892 to Miss Sadie Baird, who survies and a son Glenn E. Charles of Warsaw, District Atty., 2 daughters, Mrs. Richard Baker of Ithaca and Mrs. Louis R. Burbach of New Orleans, a grandson, John Charles Burbach and a sister, Mrs. Olive Gleason of Warsaw.
