Joseph Anthony "Joe" Lewinski entered eternal life into the presence of Jesus on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the age of 89 years.

Joseph Anthony was born on April 16, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Bronislaus "Barney" and Aloise "Alma" (Polski) Lewinski. He is survived by the love of his life, best friend and wife of nearly 62 years, Lois.

Joseph married Lois Mae Sonnenburg in Milwaukee on September 22, 1956, at Garden Homes Lutheran Church. "Joe" and "Sonny" were blessed with 3 children.

Joseph is the loving father of David (Barbara) Lewinski, Daun Schultz and Julie (Jim) Sergeant. Cherished grandfather of Laura Rogers, Andrea (Phil) Saulnier, Julia (Caleb) Olson, Stephanie Schultz, Megan Schultz, Sarah Sergeant, Samantha Sergeant and Stephen Sergeant. Great-grandfather of Naomi Rogers and Lilak Saulnier. He is further survived by sisters-in-law Sue Lewinski and Carol Traeger, brother-in-law Merlin Flemion, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

"Joe" was preceded in death by siblings: Sylvia (the late Richard) Cady, Leonard (the late Ann) Lewinski, Virginia "Ginny" Flemion, Conrad Lewinski, Adrian "Buddy" Lewinski, Robert "Bob" Lewinski, Mary Ellen (the late Dominic) Albanese and brother-in-law Richard Traeger.

Joseph served his country as a U.S. Navy Veteran in both WWII and Korea and was decorated with 3 medals. He served in the military (both in active duty and in the reserves, for both Navy and Army) for almost 35 years. His last role before retiring in 1986 was a course developer and instructor for the Military Intelligence Branch.

After graduating from college with honors, Joseph served as a Police Officer for the City of Milwaukee for nearly 30 years. Using his excellent communication skills, "Joe" (alongside "McGruff" the dog) also taught hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren about "taking a bite out of crime". Finally, "Joe" was an award-winning speaker in Toastmasters International.

Joseph was devout in his faith and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in West Bend for 25 years.

In addition to spending cherished time with his many loved ones (and pets), he especially loved singing and telling jokes and sharing humorous stories. "Joe" was a huge fan of both the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers, and he enjoyed playing sheepshead.

Joseph touched the lives of everyone he met and he will be greatly missed by many.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 380 Bluemound Rd., Waukesha (4 blocks south if I-94 on the corner of J and JJ) with Funeral Service at 7:00 PM. Private burial is on Saturday, June 9, 2018.
