"William F Emerson, 71, of 195 New St, Pleasantville, died at 7:05 am Friday, Aug 27, 1993, at the Titusville Area Hospital following an extended illness. Mr Emerson was born in Titusville on Nov 15, 1921, a son of the late Arthur E and Harriet M Hanson (sic) [Hansen] Emerson. He was married to A Patricia Smith on March 8, 1946, at Franklin. He attended the Titusville schools and was a veteran of World War II. He entered the service on July 6, 1942, at News (sic) [New] Cumberland. He served with Company B, 17th Armored Engineer Battalion, Second Armored Division "Hell on Wheels." He served in central Europe, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and the Rhineland. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 6 bronze stars. He was honorably discharged on Oct 24, 1945, at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation with the rank of Technician 5th Grade. Mr Emerson was employed by the Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp for 42 years. He was a stacker crane operator. He retired in 1983. He was baptized at St James Memorial Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Cyclops Quarter Century Club; the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department; [and] the Bruce Shorts Post No 5958, VFW. He served on [the] Pleasantville City Council and was a zoning officer of Pleasantville for a number of years. His activities included amateur cartoonist, woodworking, carving and gardening. He is survived by his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry E and Cynthia Emerson of Titusville; one daughter, Mrs Rolf (Ronna) Kraemer of Edinboro; three grandchildren...two step-grandchildren...; one brother, Donald Emerson of Titusville, RD 3; three sisters, Mrs Marcelyn Jacobson, Mrs Ruth Johnson and Mrs Evelyn Antill, all of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, one sister, Mrs Alberta Manross, and four brothers, James 'Bus" Emerson, Wayne Emerson, Arthur R Emerson and Howard R Emerson, died previously. Friends may call at the Gordon B Garrett Funeral Home...and attend the funeral service there on Monday at 1 pm, with Rev George Hough, rector of St James Memorial Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery."
