Dr. Benson was the son of Albert Charles BENSON (b. 17-Jun-1889, Elmhurst, NY) and Emma Catherine QUIS (1894-1975). Dr. Benson was born in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens. When he was growing up, his family moved to Virginia, and he worked on dairy farms. His Doctor of Veterinary Medicine was from University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine, 1953. That same year, he founded Benson Animal Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Until a few short years before his death, Dr. Benson could still sometimes be seen checking in at the animal hospital to see how all the animals were. He was a founding member of the Metropolitan Emergency Animal Clinic (MEAC) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann, in 1997, by his parents, and by his sister, Joan. He was survived by a daughter, a son, and three grandchildren.
