Jeanne Lorraine Blenkhorn Alley passed away on August 16, 2022, after a long and adventurous life well lived.

Born Oct 30, 1930, she was an avid hiker, scuba diver, and sailor. Her sense of adventure took her around the world, but her love of the Smoky Mountains always brought her home. Following graduation from St Mary's nursing program in 1951, she excelled as a Registered Nurse for 48 years. During her career at The University of Tennessee Medical Center, she was instrumental in starting the Cardiac Labs, supervised the Gastroenterology Lab and Office, was conducive in starting lithotripsy and initiating many of the procedures that are used today.

Presented a lifetime achievement award by The University of Tennessee Medical Center, her placement on the Wall of Fame at the entrance to the Medical Center exemplifies her dedication to the hospital and her patients. Jeanne retired from the hospital at the age of 69 and joined the Peace Corps. She served in Turkmenistan, Micronesia, and Haiti. One of her favorite stories while serving in Turkmenistan, was that a tribal chief wanted her to marry him because she had all her teeth. The world is a better place for all she has done. Her knowledge and inspiration helped instill a drive to many and her tremendous heart will live in everyone she touched.

She is survived by a family that will miss her dearly: sons, Patrick (Karen), Michael (Fran), Tom (Sonia), and Joel (Debbie); daughters, Carolyn Alley and Claire Stone; grandchildren, Scott Alley, Misty Alley, Ben Stone (Kelly), Ryan Alley, Colleen Alley, and Rusty Wallace; great granddaughter, Reagan Stone; niece, Tamara Kuhnberger (John) and great niece and nephew, Julia and John. Jeanne is also leaving behind wonderful friends from her many walks of life.

Special thanks to the Happy Hikers whose friendship brought her so much joy in her retirement years. And to Gerald Gulley who watched over her.

No services are planned at this time. If you would like to honor Jeanne's memory, please consider donating to Friends of The Smokies, P. O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN 37764.
