GROTON - Dorothy Irene Head Calandra, 83, formerly of Groton, died Monday, November 8, 2004, at the Cortland Memorial Nursing Facility after a brief illness, with her family by her side.

Mrs. Calandra was born December 9, 1920 in Cortland, a daughter of the late Chester and Cora Parker Head. After her graduation from Moravia High School in 1938, Dorothy was employed by New York Telephone Co. for 13 years. She was an accountant with the SCM Corp for 25 years afterward, before retiring in 1982.

Dorothy had lived in the Moravia-Locke area for most of her life. She was an avid bowler in various leagues and was a golf enthusiast. She was active in several Senior Citizen clubs, and traveled often in her retirement years.

Dorothy is survived by a son, Robert (Jo) Calandra of Minoa; daughters, Correne Argyle (Robert Jr.) and Victoria Calandra, both of Cortland; daughter-in-law, Carla Calandra of Moravia; grandchildren, Amy Calandra, Lisa Julian, Casey Lynn Calandra, T.J. Calandra, Heidi White, and Matthew Mulvaney; great-grandchildren, Skylar White, Jacob White, Draven Mulvaney, Caleb Mulvaney, Daniel Julian, and Sarah Julian. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, John Calandra in 2001; and son, Richard Calandra in 1984.

Arrangements are private with no calling hours or services. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to a Hospice of one's choice. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family in care of Correne Argyle, 35 Alvena Ave., Cortland, NY 13045.
