She was a mother of six, a grandmother of 14 and a great grandmother of 11. Barbara worked for years at the Marine Corps Uniform Shop on Camp Barrett. Her favorite job was working at Hartwood Elementary School as an Instructional Paraprofessional. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 29 and the ACCABA Court No. 105 Ladies Oriental Shrine who supports Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Barbara is survived by her children, Leroy D. Holt of South Carolina, David P. Holt (Linda) and Gary S. Smith (Christine), all of Spotsylvania County, Scott M. Smith (Kimberly) of Stafford County, and James A. Smith (Marizon) and Stephanie M. Otis, all of Spotsylvania; 12 grandchildren, Rachel Greathouse, Dalton Holt, Meredith Rose, Owen Holt, Sara Holt, David P. Holt, Jr., Ryan S. Smith, Kara Decatur, Nathan M. Smith, Ashley Smith, Kestrel Mald, and Cynthia Smith; nine great-grandchildren, Dallas Greathouse, Tucker Rose, Riley Holt, Eden Holt, Kaeden Pritchard, Bailey Decatur, Wyatt Decatur, Addison Smith, and Khari Morris; brother, Walter R. Owens (Joyce) of Massachusetts; and sister-in-law, Sue Owens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Smith; daughter, Cynthia Ann Otis; parents, Franklin and Eva Owens; brothers, Vernon and Everett Owens; sisters, Dorothy McManus and Marilyn Wilson; and great grandson, Trevor Appleby.
Barbara's family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2022 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be determined with a private graveside service for the family.
