Mary Etta Swartwout, 92, of Hancock, NY, died on Monday, August 1, 2022 at home after a short illness. She was born on May 29, 1930 in Walton, NY, the daughter of Lowell and Gertrude (Spencer) Barnhart.

Mary married Arnold Swartwout on January 20, 1947 and he predeceased her on December 23, 2001. She worked several years at the Capitol Restaurant and as a beautician as well as several other jobs throughout her years.

Surviving are 3 sons, Arnold (Marilyn); Pahrump, NV, Donald; San Bernadino, CA, and Brian; Salt Lake City, UT; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and "adopted daughter", Janet Sutliff and her daughter, Lisa Rieman and family, who took care of Mary in the last weeks of her life. Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Donna and her husband Herbie Keel; son, Ronald Swartwout; and all of her sibings.

A graveside service will be held in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock, on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 11AM.
