Don was born June 20, 1926, in Litchfield, Neb., the son of Elmer and Shirley Diefenbaugh. He died Dec. 31, 2009, in Sandy.
He grew up on a farm in the Litchfield area and joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged in June 1946. On April 4, 1952, he married Ardith Tracy in Ventura, Calif., where he worked with the local gas company. In June 1964, the family moved to Lakeside, where Don worked for his father-in-law until he took a job as a pipe fitter with International Paper in Gardiner, where he eventually retired. He moved to Coos Bay in 1986.
Don enjoyed fishing, wood working, reading and tending his garden, as well as spending time with his family.
Don is survived by his sons, Tom and Kathy , David and Peggy, Tim and Caralee; daughters, Debbie and Robert , and Michelle and Dusty; sister Peggy and brother Dale; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Ardith, in 1982.
