Yvonne Roberta McLaughlin came into this world on October 17, 1937. She was born to Dallas and Harry McLaughlin at their home in Adrian, TX. Not long after her birth they moved to Amarillo where Bugs, with the exception of half a dozen years, lived the rest of her life. Her father passed when she was only 8 years old and Ladybug was always proud of her mom for working so diligently raising the five children. When mom was about 2 years old, one of the neighbors commented she looked like a little ladybug crawling around the yard and the nickname stuck. Ladybug - that's our Mama. She was a born again Christian and her family take comfort in knowing that she is now with her Lord and Savior. She married Royce E. Barton in 1954 and they shared three children together until the loss of their son, Shannon E. Barton who drowned in 1972 at the age of 13. She and Royce later divorced. He also preceded her in death (2013). Mom, always being a resilient, self-sufficient, yet faithful woman of great inner strength, picked herself up and carried on in life. She met Dennis W. Slaughter and found love once more. They married in 1986 and experienced a wonderful, life together; accepting and loving each other's grown children, and cherishing the grandchildren. Sadly, Ladybug lost Dennis in 1997. Mother spent her time and money helping others. She was known as a true friend to many a person, whether she met them this morning or had known them for years. She excelled at making you feel welcome and comfortable.

In her younger days she was a member of the Rolling Hills Riding Club and loved making sure her family and the horses were well groomed, from mane to their polished hooves, for the many parades and playdays. When her children were young she was a stay at home mom. As the children grew she worked at the Country Western Store in Pleasant Valley and later at St. Anthony's Hospital, retiring from Saints in 1997. Both positions gave her opportunity to help others and make tons of new friends.

Ladybug loved spending time with family and friends, from 4th of July parties at her house to trips with her brothers and sisters to research family history. Mom always gave 100 percent of and never hesitated when it came to serving others. Mother performed "small random acts of kindness" daily. One of mom's greatest pleasures was sharing a meal and God's word with her Thursday night Bible study group.

In knowing mama, you know there is so much more to her than we can ever express here so we'll end by saying "to know her was to love her". Ladybug, Mother, Memaw, Bugs, hat lady, however you were called we will miss you dearly and are blessed to know you woke on the morning of August 26, 2022 with angels wings and clear thoughts.

In addition to her parents, her son, and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Mayo and Sonny (Carl) McLaughlin and a sister Leota Crabb.

Ladybug is survived by her sister and dear friend Sandra Morton and husband Buck, daughters Storm Wardwell and husband Greg, and Julie Pulliam, her grandchildren Amanda Parks and husband Everett, Kylie Hoobler and husband Ty, and Shannon Pulliam and wife Nina, great-grandchildren Riley McGill, Cami & Bodi Parks, Bowen, Lila, & Amelia Hoobler, Colt & Elly Lemarr and one great-great granddaughter Mavis McGill and last but not least a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends all of which knew they were loved.
